Planning, Building Regulations and Build, Handled by One Team
Extensions to your home is more cost effective than moving house.
People choose to have extensions on their properties for various reasons.
For example, if you have recently set up your own business, an extension can allow you to have your own office space – making it easier to separate your work life from your home life, even while working from home!
Equally, it may be you want to give guests their own space or simply fancy adding a bit space to your home.
Doughty Construction can provide your property extensions safely and expertly to help you get the most from your extension.
Getting Permission
Whilst not always necessary, the rules can vary depending on your local council. However, we will inform you of this and, if needed, we will ensure that planning permission is obtained before any work begins.
Even if a project does not require planning permission, it will still require Building Regulations Approval first.
This is important as the approval has been put in place to ensure consistent building standards in all UK construction projects.
Rest assured, we can help guide you through the process from beginning to end.
Position Planning
Before we begin construction, we will advise on the area that you would like to have work build on. It may be that the extension overlooks a babbling brook and provides an ideal space for you to relax and unwind after a difficult day.
However, if the extension ends up being built in an area overlooking oncoming traffic, the additional space may be cancelled out by noise and disruption.
We will help and advise on the best way to implement your extension before our work begins.
Types of Extension
There are a couple of ways you can make an extension work. Typically, it will either be an addition to the loft or attic space. Alternatively, you may want to go further and add to the basement space.
We can change the shape of a room, giving it a different and distinct feel to other areas of the house; ideal if you want a defined personal space such as a game room or study. We can also add additional definition using features like a hidden glazing panel.
We can also look at your landscaping and see how this can be incorporated as part of the design.
